KEEP HUTTO BEAUTIFUL FOUNDATION BRINGS NATIONAL RECYCLING CELEBRATION TO HUTTO, TEXAS

Hutto, TX Oct. 12 2017 – On Nov. 18th, Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation will host a free Document Shredding and Electronic Recycling Event, joining thousands of local organizers holding recycling events across the country to celebrate America Recycles Day (ARD), a national initiative of Keep America Beautiful.

Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation will be spending the month of November celebrating America Recycling Day, starting with a Mayoral Proclamation at the Nov. 2nd Hutto City Council meeting.  Through an online campaign various recycling resources will be shared with the Hutto Community, including the #BeRecycled Pledge which encourages people to recycle in all aspects of their lives.

Veterans Hill Elementary School will also be getting into the recycling spirit and will be participating in the Nationwide Recycling Competition ‘Recycle-Bowl’.  Students, staff and administrators will track and report how much material is collected throughout the weeks of the competition and will be compared to the numbers reported from other K-12 schools across Texas as well as the entire country. Participating schools have a chance to win prizes and national recognition.

Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation will be hosting a ‘security-themed’ America Recycles Day event on Saturday, Nov. 18th as the main celebration for the month. The event will be held at the Peterson Community Garden located at 205 Hutto Street from 9am to 1pm. Hutto community members – those that live in the city limits as well as in the extra-territorial jurisdiction – can come and drop off their electronics and their documents for free feeling secure that their information will be safely disposed of in a secure and environmentally-friendly way.

The onsite document shredding is being done by Balcones Shred.  Up to 5 boxes will be accepted per person.  All paper destroyed with Balcones Shred is responsibly recycled.

Goodwill Central Texas will be collecting electronics to be recycled. Goodwill partners with Dell Technologies as part of the Dell Reconnect program in order to make sure systems and accessories are refurbished or recycled responsibly. All brands of electronics will be accepted. Any and all electronics are accepted with the exception of tube televisions.

Al Clawson Disposal Inc, the primary recycling collector for Hutto, will be present as well. The will have Henry the Recycling Hippo onsite ready to take cans and plastic bottles. There will also be a collection area for non-perishable food to be donated to the Hutto Food Pantry just in time for Thanksgiving. Fun recycling-themed games for the kids will be held providing both education and enjoyment.

Hutto Lions Club is sponsoring the America Recycles Day event. A part of the Hutto community since 1954, they strive to make the community stronger through service. Some of their efforts include the flag lease program and provide spot vision screenings at selected events through the year.
