GLENWOOD SUBDIVISION AWARDED
GOLDEN HIPPO TROPHY

Hutto, TX, June 25, 2018– Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation has awarded Glenwood Subdivision with the Golden Hippo Traveling Trophy in honor of their efforts during the 2018 Great Hutto Cleanup on April 7th.

Six neighborhoods participated in cleaning up their individual communities the day of the event as part of the Golden Hippo Traveling Trophy contest. The Golden Hippo is awarded to the neighborhood which has the most volunteers participate in the cleanup, and the 750-pound, concrete hippo trophy is displayed at the winning neighborhood entrance for one year.

The Golden Hippo contest was started in 2017 as a way to encourage friendly competition and volunteer engagement within the Hutto neighborhoods. The first contest had two neighborhoods (Hutto Parke and Glenwood) that competed.  In 2018, participation increased to six neighborhoods (Glenwood, Hutto Town Square, Emory Farms, Hutto Parke, Riverwalk, and Creekside Estates).

Under the umbrella of the Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation, the annual Great Hutto Cleanup offers a free Junk Round Up for all citizens within the Hutto ISD boundary.  The event also features a litter cleanup through Hutto’s public areas and hosts the Golden Hippo Traveling Trophy contest between the neighborhoods.  Despite the 40-degree weather that day, the event had an overall turnout of 431 volunteers which is an 88% increase from 2017. A fourth of those volunteers were because of the Golden Hippo Traveling Trophy contest.  Keep Hutto Beautiful’s Great Hutto Cleanup is the largest community-wide day of service in Hutto, Texas and is part of the Don’t Mess With Texas Trash Off and the Great American Cleanup.
