SUCCESSFUL AMERICA RECYCLES DAY EVENT HELPS TO KEEP HUTTO BEAUTIFUL
Hutto, TX, December 4, 2017– Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation hosted their inaugural America Recycles Day Event on Nov. 18th at the Peterson Community Garden. Sponsored by the Hutto Lions Club, the free event collected electronics for recycling and provided document shredding for the Hutto Community.

Goodwill Central Texas collected 2,860 pounds of electronics during the event. Goodwill partners with Dell Technologies as part of the Dell Reconnect program in order to make sure systems and accessories are refurbished or recycled responsibly.

Balcones Shred, a division of Balcones Resources, provided free onsite document shredding. Through this event, they were able to collect and shred 3,700 pounds of paper. Per the Balcones Shred environmental report, the following resources were conserved as a result of our recycling efforts: 31 Trees, 703 Gallons of Oil, 12,950 Gallons of Water, 7,585 Kilowatt Hours of Energy, and 6.11 Cubic Yards of Landfill Space.

In addition to electronics and documents, Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation also collected donations for the Hutto Community Food Pantry in the amount of 144 pounds of food, plus a $25 cash donation. The Hutto Lions Club collected 47 eyeglasses to be recycled, as well as sponsoring the event and providing volunteer services. Al Clawson Disposal and Keep Hutto Beautiful provided games and activities for kids.

Veterans Hill Elementary School was honored at the event for their participation in the Nationwide Recycling Competition ‘Recycle-Bowl’. The school was able to collect 2,786.40 pounds of recycling material in one month! Students, staff and administrators tracked and reported how much recycled material was collected within the school during the competition. Al Clawson Disposal Inc assisted them by providing extra recycling containers and helping to weigh the materials at the end. Participating schools have a chance to win prizes and national recognition and will be compared to the numbers reported from other K-12 schools across Texas as well as the entire country.

America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day and coast-to-coast community-driven awareness campaign dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. It has been held on – and in the weeks leading into – Nov. 15 since 1997. America Recycles Day is made possible through the generous support of Amcor, American Chemistry Council, ISRI and Northrop Grumman Corporation.
