HUTTO RECEIVES GRANT FROM
KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL FOR LOCAL PROGRAM

Hutto, TX, December 12, 2017– Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) has recognized Keep Hutto Beautiful as a recipient of the 2017 Green Bag Grants. Through funding from H-E-B and Central Market, Keep Texas Beautiful will provide 13 affiliate communities with a share of $25,000 to support formal and informal educational opportunities in the categories of plastic bag recycling and reduction, sustainability, recycling, litter prevention, beautification, water conservation education and programming pertaining to environmental education and/or waste management. Five cents from every customer purchase of reusable, green grocery bags at H-E-B stores is used to fund these grants, which range in size from $150 to $3,000.

Through a partnership between Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation and the City of Hutto, the Hutto Adopt-A-Spot program will be relaunched.  To assist with the relaunch, Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation has received a $1,000 Green Bag Grant for education and marketing.

Adopt-A-Spot provides residents and/or organizations with a means to help keep the Hutto Community a clean and beautiful place to live, work, and play. This program encourages citizen participation in litter clean-ups of designated public areas at regular intervals. By pledging to maintain a particular area of town, groups can make a visible impact on the local environment.  The City of Hutto and Keep Hutto Beautiful will be providing more information about this exciting program in 2018.

In addition to Hutto, the affiliate communities of Angelina County, Lewisville, McAllen, Midland, Nolanville, Odessa, Plano, San Marcos, Sugar Land, Waco, North Richland Hills, and Weston Lakes also received a Green Bag Grant.

H-E-B and Central Market provide an additional $25,000 in funding for the Keep Texas Waterways Clean program, which provides communities with the expertise and tools to host cleanup events on waterways such as oceans, rivers, streams, tributaries, lakes and bayous.
